Instruction 2- Elaboration
Day 1:
- Students learned the differences between "Showing" vs. "Telling" in writing.
- Students practiced revising sentences that lacked detail, and transformed them into sentences with strong imagery.
- Students revised their writing with a focus on using more descriptive details and imagery.
Day 2:
- Combination of Reading and Writing Workshop.
- Students would read a short story for 5-10 minutes, paying close attention to 2 specific strategies that authors use to make their writing more descriptive.
- Students then spent 10 minutes revising their own drafts with a focus on the 2 strategies that were paying attention to in the reading.
- When they revised their writing for a specific strategy, they had to change the font color. Each strategy was assigned its own color.
